King's House Coffee Shop

The King's House opened in November 1994 as an initiative of four Knaphill Churches (Church of England - Holy Trinity, Roman Catholic - St. Hugh of Lincoln, Baptist and methodist). Its has been set up as a registered charity with the Charity Commissioners.

The aim was to have a venture where the churches could be seen working together in serving the community by the provision of food and drink in a welcoming and caring environment.

At the outset, we received a grant from Woking Borough Council who wanted to encourage the initiative. However, we are very much self supporting and, in trading terms, have made good progress each year until recent years when rising rents and a small but significant drop in income from the shop have given cause for some concern. However with much prayer and renewed efforts in fund raising the management team, together with the staff and helpers from all the churches, the shop has survived and continued in its service to the community. Another rise in rent is however anticipated later this year, (2007).

Over the past 13 years, we have seen The King's House become an accepted part of village life. The feedback from customers has been very positive in that they enjoy the freshly cooked food at very reasonable prices that they can eat in a hospitable environment.
