St Hugh of Lincoln Primary School

St Hugh of Lincoln is a Voluntary Aided Catholic School of 210 pupils, which provides education for children aged 5 to 11. The school is situated in the parish of St Hugh of Lincoln in St Johns and is part of the Surrey Local Authority.

The vast majority of pupils continue their education at St John the Baptist Catholic Secondary School. A very effective transfer process is maintained and supported by both schools.

The school building provides purpose built, spacious classrooms, a large hall, a library, technology resource areas and a kitchen in which freshly cooked meals are provided at lunchtimes. Work on an IT suite was completed in 2001 to enable all pupils to develop fully those IT skills vital for life in the 21st century. All classrooms are fitted with interactive white boards. A recent extension to the Reception Class provided a covered area for outdoor play and additional space for sand and water play. In 2005 extensive improvements were made to the administration and staff facilities. The school enjoys the benefit of a large and open site with grass and trees.

The community served by the school is suburban, settled and prosperous. Parents give tremendous support to their own children, to other children by helping with activities, and to the dchool as a whole through the very active and creative "Friends of St Hugh's" Parents Association. These excellent links were recognised in 2004 when the school gained the Surrey "Working in Partnership with Parents" Award.

Links with the parish of St Hugh of Lincoln are sustained by regular visits from the Parish Priest. The School Governors take a very active and supportive interest in school life and activities.

The school is fortunate to have a stable and experienced team of both teaching and support staff. The present teaching establishment is the Headteacher, the Deputy Head, five other full-time teachers and three part-time teachers. One full-time teacher provides support for pupils with Special Needs and classroom cover in order to allow class teachers opportunity to develop their roles as Curriculum Managers.. The teaching staff are very ably supported by a strong team of Learning Support Assistants and Special Needs Assistants.

Having achieved Investor in People status in 2001, the school strives to maintain this prestifious award and is committed to the continuing development of all working members of the school community. A successful IP review assessment was carried out in May 2006.

In November 2004 the school was awarded the Achievement Mark by Sport England. This is a national award which recognises the work schools do to ensure a depth and variety of physical activities for pupils both within and beyond curriculum time.

The school recently won the Surrey "Healthy Eating" award certificate.
